What Threats Does MFA Protect Against?

A traditional password can be used by anybody who gets their hands on it, but MFA or 2FA validates the user with a second device after a password is entered.
Brute Force Attacks
In a brute-force attack, a hacker randomly generates passwords for a specific computer until they land on the correct sequence. 2FA’s second layer of protection requires a login attempt to be validated before granting access.
Hackers will often send emails that include links to malicious websites designed to either infect a user’s computer or convince them to enter their passwords. 2FA fights phishing by adding a second layer of validation after the password has been entered.
Social Engineering
Hackers will often simply manipulate users into giving up their passwords. By posing as an IT professional at the user’s company, they can earn the trust of the user before asking for login credentials. 2FA protects against this by validating the location and IP of every login attempt after a password has been entered.
Key Logging
Even if a user hasn’t written down their password, hackers can use malware to track and copy a user’s password as they type. Hackers track every keystroke and store the password to be used later. The second layer of validation in 2FA lets a user ensure that the login attempt is their own, even if their password has been compromised.

Which industries should be using Multi-Factor Authentication?

Just wanted to take a minute to talk about Multi Factor Authentication. It’s a really important piece of your overall security strategy. What it does is help keep the bad guys out by adding an additional layer of authentication into your logins.
Besides just the username and password you now need a token that an employee holds to prove who they are
Really the reason why that’s so important is because a lot of entry into environments is being made through compromised credentials. Something that is out there on the dark web or something that just wasn’t really very strong in terms of the length of the password to begin with is now an open door for an attacker to get into your environment and do some serious damage and so multifactor really helps with that by adding an additional layer that has to be met in order for someone to login.
Really the thing we like the best is leveraging our partnership with Duo to really give you a great strong front door presence with blocking those malicious attempts but also the ease of use that’s important for employees to be able to adopt a technology like that. Many people are worried that it might compromise their workflow, not let them get their work done,stand in the way of them continuing to be productive and Duo really eases all of those concerns by their ease of use with their product being able to very quickly get people enrolled and also very quickly do those authentications when their needed
